The Dean of Faculty stands at the apex of academic leadership below the Vice Chancellor — responsible for the intellectual, financial, and strategic health of an entire academic faculty. If you have reached professorship and want to take responsibility for shaping not just your own research but the entire direction of your discipline within a national institution, the Deanship is the ultimate expression of academic leadership in Sri Lanka.

About This Role

Lead an entire faculty (e.g., Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine) within a Sri Lankan university. Oversee all academic departments, manage faculty-wide budget and resources, drive academic quality, represent the faculty at senate level, and build strategic partnerships with industry and government.

A Day in the Life

A Dean of Faculty leads a complex academic organisation — managing multiple department heads, overseeing hundreds of academic staff, and setting the strategic direction for thousands of students. Days involve senate meetings, industry partner engagements, budget reviews, accreditation preparations, and representing the faculty in national academic governance bodies.

  • Chair faculty board and coordinate heads of departments
  • Oversee faculty-wide academic quality and accreditation compliance
  • Manage faculty budget allocation across departments
  • Represent the faculty at University Senate
  • Drive industry partnerships and international MoU agreements
  • Lead faculty strategic planning and five-year development plans
  • Handle senior staff appointments and promotions
  • Engage with government ministries on relevant national programmes
