About This Role
Manages buyer social audits (WRAP, SA8000, SMETA), environmental compliance, worker welfare programmes, and factory sustainability certifications. Growing role as global brands mandate ethical sourcing. Works with HR, compliance, and operations teams.
A Day in the Life
Oversee compliance with international labour standards, environmental regulations, and buyer codes of conduct across garment factories. Prepare audit reports, train workers on rights, and manage sustainability certification renewals.
- Conduct factory floor audits for WRAP, BSCI, and buyer code of conduct compliance
- Prepare and submit sustainability reports (GRI, SEDEX, Higg Index)
- Train workers and supervisors on labour rights, fire safety, and anti-harassment policies
- Coordinate responses to buyer questionnaires on environmental and social performance
- Monitor wastewater treatment, energy usage, and chemical handling compliance
- Liaise with Labour Department inspectors and ensure payroll compliance
- Drive CSR community programs near factory locations
Work Environment
Split between factory floor inspections and office documentation work. Requires comfort with production environments and direct engagement with machine operators and supervisors.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Reasonable hours with occasional urgency around buyer audits. Field work means some travel to factories outside Colombo.
