A Day in the Life
Cloud Engineer / DevOps Engineers manage the complete software delivery pipeline — from infrastructure provisioning to automated deployments — ensuring that development teams can ship software reliably, quickly, and safely on cloud platforms.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Provision and manage cloud infrastructure with Terraform
- Manage Kubernetes clusters and container deployments
- Monitor application and infrastructure metrics (Datadog, Prometheus)
- Automate manual operational tasks with Python/Bash scripts
- Respond to incidents and conduct post-mortems
- Collaborate with development teams on deployment strategies and release processes
Work Environment
Tech company or enterprise IT. On-call rotation standard. Remote work widely available.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
On-call is part of the role. Good teams manage this well. Remote-first companies often have better WLB.
