About This Role
Manages a cinnamon cultivation estate — planting, pruning (essential for cinnamon harvesting from suckers), harvest scheduling, worker management, and yield optimisation. Cinnamon estates are predominantly in Matara, Galle, and Kalutara districts. The crop requires specific agro-climatic conditions — Sri Lanka's southwest lowlands are ideal. Promoted from agricultural officer roles.
A Day in the Life
Manage a cinnamon estate in Sri Lanka's Western and Southern Provinces — overseeing cultivation, pruning, harvesting cycles, worker management, and cinnamon delivery to collectors or processors.
- Plan and supervise cinnamon pruning cycles to produce ideal shoots for peeling
- Manage the planting of new cinnamon plants and gap-filling in estate
- Oversee daily harvest operations and quality of peeled cinnamon deliveries
- Manage estate workers — wages, attendance, and welfare
- Apply fertiliser and pesticide schedules for cinnamon trees
- Negotiate sale of cinnamon with collectors and exporters
- Maintain estate financial records and cost management
Work Environment
Outdoor cinnamon estate environment in Negombo, Beruwala, Ambalangoda, or Matara districts. Combines field work with simple estate management office functions.
