A Day in the Life
An Asset Management Consultant in Sri Lanka advises clients — individuals, corporate treasuries, and institutional investors — on building and managing investment portfolios. Their day involves meeting clients to assess financial goals, constructing asset allocation strategies, analyzing securities and funds available on the Colombo Stock Exchange and international platforms, preparing investment proposals, monitoring portfolio performance, and rebalancing portfolios in response to market changes or client circumstances.
- Meet clients to assess investment goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon
- Construct diversified asset allocation strategies across equities, fixed income, and alternatives
- Analyze listed securities on the CSE and unit trust funds for investment merit
- Prepare investment proposals and portfolio reports for clients
- Monitor client portfolio performance against benchmarks and targets
- Rebalance portfolios in response to market movements and client changes
- Research macroeconomic conditions and their impact on Sri Lankan markets
- Present quarterly performance reviews and market outlook to clients
Work Environment
Asset management consultants work in investment management companies, licensed fund management firms, stockbroking companies with advisory arms, or banks' wealth management divisions. The environment is client-facing and market-driven. CSE market hours influence the daily rhythm. Regular client meetings — in-office and at client premises — are core to the role.
