Apparel Merchandiser

VERY HIGH DemandMEDIUM AI RiskGROWING in SL· Rs.65k – Rs.200k /mo

Ideal for commercially minded individuals who thrive on deadlines and enjoy being at the centre of a high-stakes international business. If you like managing complexity, talking to international buyers, and seeing physical products shipped across the world because of your coordination, apparel merchandising is deeply satisfying. However, this is genuinely not a 9-to-5 job — the WhatsApp group never sleeps, and shipment deadlines create real pressure.

About This Role

Manages the end-to-end communication between Sri Lankan garment factories and international buyers (H&M, Primark, Gap). Responsible for order management, costing, tech pack review, sampling coordination, and on-time shipment. Most in-demand white-collar role in the apparel sector.

A Day in the Life

Manages the complete order lifecycle between international buyers (H&M, Gap, Primark) and Sri Lankan garment factories — from initial costing and sampling through production follow-up and final shipment.

  • Review new buyer enquiries and prepare garment cost sheets (CM + material cost)
  • Coordinate sample development between buyer tech pack and factory sample room
  • Join buyer video calls (often 7–9am for European time zones)
  • Follow up on fabric and trim delivery from suppliers
  • Update critical path and shipment trackers for all active orders
  • Resolve production issues escalated by factory floor
  • Prepare packing list, invoice, and export documentation for LC or TT payment
  • Attend weekly cross-functional meetings with QC, IE, and planning teams

Work Environment

OFFICETeam: SMALLBUSINESS CASUALRemote: MEDIUM

Corporate office within a garment factory complex (Katunayake, Biyagama, Wathupitiwala EPZ) or a standalone Colombo merchandising office. Open-plan, multiple screens, buyer samples displayed on shelving. Frequent factory floor visits.

Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 5/10 · COMMON overtime

Shipment deadlines create significant pressure. Early morning calls for European buyers (7–9am UK/Germany time) and after-hours WhatsApp messages from buyers are standard. Peak season before Christmas and Easter is especially demanding.
