About This Role
Provides agronomic advice on crop management, disease control, soil science, and yield improvement for tea, rubber, or coconut plantations. Works with the Tea Research Institute (TRI), Rubber Research Institute (RRI), or Coconut Research Institute (CRI).
A Day in the Life
Provide technical advisory services to tea and rubber smallholders or estate divisions on agronomy, soil management, pest control, and yield improvement under the Plantation Ministry or a Regional Plantation Company.
- Conduct field visits to smallholder plots and estate divisions
- Advise on fertiliser application, pruning cycles, and intercropping
- Conduct soil sampling and interpret analysis reports
- Identify and recommend treatment for pest and disease outbreaks
- Organise farmer training programs on good agricultural practices
- Maintain field data registers and prepare monthly reports for the Department of Agriculture
- Coordinate with TSHDA, RRI, and CRI extension officers
Work Environment
Mixed office and field role based at government agricultural offices (Kandy, Ratnapura, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya) with regular visits to estates and smallholder farms.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Government service hours are structured. Field visits require some early starts but overall reasonable. Includes pension and leave entitlements.
