An Actuarial Analyst (Risk Management) in Sri Lanka applies actuarial techniques specifically to enterprise-wide risk management frameworks, including credit risk, operational risk, and strategic risk in addition to insurance risk. Their day involves building risk registers, quantifying risk exposures using actuarial methods, supporting the Chief Risk Officer with capital allocation recommendations, and ensuring that the insurer's risk appetite is maintained within board-approved limits.
- Maintain and update the enterprise risk register with actuarial quantification
- Quantify financial, operational, and insurance risks using actuarial methods
- Support Chief Risk Officer with capital allocation and risk appetite reporting
- Prepare quarterly Risk Committee reports for board and senior management
- Monitor KRIs (Key Risk Indicators) and trigger early warning systems
- Conduct actuarial input into business continuity planning scenarios
- Review underwriting limits and reinsurance treaties for risk adequacy
- Assess third-party counterparty risk in investment and reinsurance portfolios
Work Environment
Works in the risk management or actuarial department of an insurance company, financial conglomerate, or consulting firm. Regular interaction with the CRO, CFO, and Board Risk Committee. The role is more management-oriented than pure actuarial modelling, requiring strategic thinking alongside technical skills.
