About This Role
AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Sri Lanka is the entry-level accounting qualification — can start after O/L. Over 60,000 registered students. AAT technicians handle bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, and basic financial statements for SMEs and support senior accountants in large firms. TVEC-approved qualification.
A Day in the Life
Apply AAT Sri Lanka accounting technician skills in bookkeeping, payroll, accounts preparation, and tax compliance for small and medium enterprises or as a foundation for CA/ACCA/CIMA progression.
- Maintain books of accounts and post daily transactions in accounting software
- Prepare monthly trial balance, bank reconciliation, and debtors/creditors schedules
- Process payroll — EPF, ETF calculations and Wages Board compliance
- Prepare VAT returns and income tax returns for clients or employer
- Prepare financial statements for small companies under LKAS for SMEs
- Manage petty cash and expense claims processing
- Liaise with external auditors providing working schedules and supporting documents
Work Environment
SME company finance department, accounting firm, or accountancy service centre. AAT technicians form the backbone of Sri Lanka's accounting infrastructure for the SME sector.
