About This Role
Manages procurement of fabric, trims, accessories, and packaging materials from local and overseas suppliers. Negotiates pricing, lead times, and payment terms. Ensures timely delivery to meet production schedules. Major role in vertically integrated companies like MAS and Brandix.
A Day in the Life
Manage global supplier relationships and raw material procurement for garment factories, negotiating fabric prices, lead times, and quality standards with suppliers in India, China, and Bangladesh.
- Negotiate fabric and trim pricing with overseas suppliers
- Evaluate new supplier capabilities and quality systems
- Monitor purchase orders, delivery schedules, and shipment tracking
- Coordinate with merchandising and production teams on material requirements
- Conduct supplier audits for compliance and ethical manufacturing
- Analyse cost sheets and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Manage import documentation and customs clearance coordination
Work Environment
Office-based role at head offices (Colombo / BOI export zones) with frequent travel to supplier factories in India and China. High-pressure environment with tight deadlines around seasonal buying calendars.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Busy during peak buying seasons (Q1 and Q3). Supplier visits require international travel. Otherwise manageable office hours.
