About This Role
Supervises tapping operations on rubber estates ensuring correct tapping panel rotation, latex collection, and grading. Sri Lanka produces ~80,000 MT of natural rubber annually, mainly from Kegalle, Kalutara, and Ratnapura districts.
A Day in the Life
Supervise rubber tapping operations on a rubber estate in Sri Lanka's low country wet zone, ensuring correct tapping technique, latex collection, daily yields, and worker safety.
- Muster tapping gang at 5:30 AM and assign tree panels
- Monitor tapping panel angle, depth, and frequency to protect tree health
- Collect and weigh latex from cup trees and coagulation areas
- Check for yellow panel disease and other tapping-related problems
- Maintain daily yield records per tapper and report to estate superintendent
- Oversee rubber sheet preparation (smoking, grading)
- Manage basic estate maintenance (drain clearing, shade management)
Work Environment
Outdoor field work in rubber estates in Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, and Kurunegala districts. Very early morning start — tapping must begin at dawn for optimal latex flow. Humid, wet conditions.
