About This Role
Designs and manages solar, wind, and biomass energy systems to transition away from fossil fuels.
A Day in the Life
Renewable Energy Systems Engineers design and commission renewable energy systems — engineering solar farms, wind turbine arrays, and energy storage systems from concept through installation, ensuring technical performance and grid compliance.
- Design solar PV and wind energy systems (single-line diagrams, layouts)
- Size energy storage systems and inverter configurations
- Prepare technical specifications for equipment procurement
- Review and approve contractor installation drawings
- Commission and test installed renewable systems
- Ensure grid connection compliance (IEEE, IEC standards)
- Analyse system performance data and optimise output
Work Environment
Renewable energy developer, EPC contractor, or utility company. Mix of design office and project site work. Field commissioning is key part of the role.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Project commissioning phases can extend hours. Site work adds variability. Generally good WLB in office phases.
