A Day in the Life
A Quantitative Financial Analyst applies mathematical and statistical methods specifically to financial analysis problems — quantitative investment research, factor modelling, financial ratio analysis with statistical rigour, and evidence-based portfolio construction. The role bridges traditional financial analysis and pure quantitative finance, with more emphasis on financial economics and investment applications than derivatives pricing. In Sri Lanka, this role exists at KPO research firms and asset management quantitative teams.
- Build quantitative factor models for systematic equity selection (value, quality, momentum)
- Conduct statistical analysis of financial statement data at scale across CSE-listed companies
- Develop quantitative scoring frameworks for company and sector analysis
- Perform portfolio optimisation using mean-variance and factor-based approaches
- Analyse financial ratio distributions and statistical properties across market sectors
- Backtest quantitative investment strategies using historical CSE and global market data
- Produce quantitative research reports integrating statistical output with investment insight
- Support portfolio managers with data-driven investment decision frameworks
