A Day in the Life
You lead the public relations strategy for an organisation, managing reputation, media relationships, crisis communications, and a team of PR professionals to protect and promote the brand.
- Develop and oversee the annual PR strategy and communications calendar
- Lead media relations strategy — cultivate relationships with senior editors and journalists
- Manage crisis communications response and act as company spokesperson when required
- Brief and prepare senior executives for media interviews and public speaking
- Review and approve all press materials, messaging, and external communications
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of PR executives and assistants
- Report PR KPIs to the CMO or Board — reach, sentiment, share of voice
- Manage agency relationships and PR budgets
Work Environment
Senior communications role in either an in-house corporate team or as a senior agency account manager. In Sri Lanka, PR Managers are found at large conglomerates (John Keells, Hemas, Aitken Spence, Dialog), banks, and leading PR agencies.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 5/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Senior PR role requires availability during crises — weekends and evenings are sometimes required. Leadership responsibility adds to mental load.
