A Day in the Life
You manage the technical systems and processes that production relies on — overseeing production planning systems, equipment reliability, quality management infrastructure, and continuous improvement to maximise factory performance.
- Review production system KPIs — OEE, throughput, first-pass yield, downtime
- Lead root cause analysis on recurring production defects or losses
- Drive Lean/Six Sigma improvement projects to reduce waste and increase efficiency
- Manage the CMMS and production planning systems (ERP/MES)
- Coordinate equipment investment decisions with finance and engineering
- Develop production capacity models for new product introduction
- Train and develop production engineers and supervisors
- Represent production systems to senior management and customers during audits

Manufacturing management office with regular factory floor access. A strategic role that combines systems thinking with operational execution. In Sri Lanka, production systems managers work in large manufacturing companies — FTZ apparel, food processing, rubber, ceramics, and government industrial corporations.
