A Day in the Life
A Probation & Child Care Officer's day involves a mix of field visits, court appearances, report writing, and counseling sessions. They work closely with children, families, and young offenders, assessing their needs and ensuring their protection and rehabilitation within the legal framework.
- Conduct home visits to assess living conditions and family dynamics of children and young offenders.
- Prepare pre-sentence reports for courts, providing recommendations for probation or care orders.
- Counsel children, young offenders, and their families on social, behavioral, and legal issues.
- Liaise with police, schools, health services, and NGOs to coordinate support for clients.
- Attend court hearings to present reports and provide testimony.
- Monitor the progress of individuals on probation or under care orders.
- Organize and facilitate rehabilitation programs and activities for youth.
- Maintain detailed case records and documentation.
