About This Role
Evaluates the impact of government regulations and economic policies on specific industries or businesses.
A Day in the Life
Research and analyze economic policies affecting Sri Lanka's macroeconomic stability, fiscal position, and development goals. Work at government ministries, CBSL, international organizations, or think tanks.
- Analyze SL economic data (GDP, inflation, trade balance, fiscal deficit)
- Research fiscal and monetary policy options and their economic impacts
- Prepare policy briefs and reports for government decision-makers
- Model economic scenarios using econometric tools (Stata, EViews, R)
- Monitor IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) conditions and progress
- Compare SL economic policy with regional peers (India, Bangladesh, Vietnam)
- Present findings to ministry officials, CBSL, or international partners
Work Environment
Research-intensive environment at CBSL, Ministry of Finance, or think tank (IPS, Advocata). Mix of academic rigor and policy application. Government roles are more structured; think tanks offer more independence.
