About This Role
Supervises tea plucking gangs on the estate, ensuring correct two-leaf-and-a-bud standard, weighing, and recording daily leaf collection. Entry-level supervisory role, often filled from experienced estate workers. NAITA certificate in plantation operations available.
A Day in the Life
Supervise a team of tea pluckers on the estate field, ensuring correct plucking standard (two leaves and a bud), achieving daily harvest targets, and maintaining field quality records.
- Muster plucking gang at 5:30 AM and assign field sections
- Monitor plucking standard (two leaves and a bud) throughout the day
- Weigh and record individual plucker outputs at field checkpoints
- Inspect for coarse plucking, trash, and quality violations
- Report daily plucking totals to Estate Officer
- Manage basic field maintenance (shade tree trimming, drain clearing)
- Maintain plucker attendance and overtime records
Work Environment
Full outdoor field work on tea estate slopes in hill country weather. Physically active role requiring walking steep terrain daily.
Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 4/10 · COMMON overtime
Early start every day, all-weather outdoor work, physically demanding. Provided housing and meals are part of compensation.
