A Day in the Life
Specialize in diagnosing, assessing, and rehabilitating hearing disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Work in newborn hearing screening programs, children's hospitals, cochlear implant centers, and special education settings in Sri Lanka.
- Perform newborn hearing screening (OAE, ABR) in postnatal wards
- Conduct diagnostic audiological assessments for infants (AABR, ASSR)
- Use behavioral audiological testing for toddlers (VRA, play audiometry)
- Program pediatric cochlear implants and optimize mapping
- Counsel parents on hearing loss diagnosis and rehabilitation options
- Collaborate with ENT surgeons, SLTs, and educators of the deaf
- Monitor hearing aid outcomes in children through aided audiograms
- Participate in early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) programs
Work Environment
Pediatric audiology clinic, newborn hearing screening program, children's hospital, or cochlear implant center. Child-friendly environment. Requires working with anxious parents of newly diagnosed deaf children.
Typical hours: 42h/week · WLB score 7/10 · RARE overtime
