Manufacturing Process Engineer
Manufacturing Process Engineering is for detail-oriented engineers who want to be masters of how things are actually made — not just how they are designed. If you are the type who takes a broken product apart to understand exactly where the process failed, and you get satisfaction from implementing the systematic fix, this role gives you that every day. In Sri Lanka's apparel and pharmaceutical sectors, process engineers are central to export quality competitiveness. Internationally, this expertise is highly portable and valued in every manufacturing-intensive economy.”
About This Role
Optimizes factory production lines to increase speed, reduce waste, and improve the quality of goods.
A Day in the Life
Define, optimise, and control the manufacturing processes used to produce products — bridging design engineering and production to ensure components are manufactured to specification, efficiently, and at required quality levels.
- Develop process plans, routings, and work instructions for new and existing products
- Set and validate process parameters — temperatures, pressures, speeds, tooling specifications
- Investigate and resolve production quality defects through root cause analysis
- Commission new production equipment and validate processes (PPAP, first article inspection)
- Implement process controls using SPC (Statistical Process Control)
- Work with design engineers on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews
- Reduce scrap, rework, and cycle time through process optimisation projects
- Manage process change documentation — ECOs, process FMEA updates
Work Environment
Manufacturing environments — production floors, clean rooms, laboratories, and process plants. Sri Lanka's apparel, pharmaceutical, electronics assembly, and food processing sectors employ process engineers. The role bridges the gap between engineering design (office) and production (shop floor), requiring comfort in both environments.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
New product launch phases and quality crisis response can drive significant overtime. Steady-state production periods offer more predictable hours.
