A Day in the Life
A Landscape Designer typically spends their day conceptualizing and drafting plans for outdoor spaces, ranging from residential gardens to commercial complexes and resorts. This involves client consultations, site analysis, plant selection, material specification, and creating detailed drawings and visualizations.
- Meet with clients to understand their vision, needs, and budget for outdoor spaces
- Conduct site assessments, including measurements, existing features, and environmental conditions
- Develop conceptual designs, mood boards, and preliminary sketches
- Create detailed landscape plans, planting plans, and construction drawings using CAD software
- Select appropriate plant species, hardscaping materials, lighting, and irrigation systems
- Prepare cost estimates and project proposals for clients
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other specialists during project implementation
- Present designs and revisions to clients, incorporating feedback
Work Environment
A blend of office-based design work and frequent site visits to client properties, nurseries, and construction sites. The environment can be a design studio, a home office, or outdoors.
Typical hours: 42h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
