A Day in the Life
IoT Network Administrators manage the connectivity layer of IoT ecosystems — configuring and monitoring device networks, troubleshooting connectivity failures, managing firmware, and ensuring secure data flows from sensors to cloud platforms.
- Monitor IoT device connectivity dashboards for anomalies
- Configure MQTT brokers, gateways, and edge computing nodes
- Troubleshoot connectivity failures in IoT sensor networks
- Manage firmware updates and OTA (over-the-air) deployments
- Implement network security for IoT devices (segmentation, encryption)
- Integrate IoT platforms with cloud services (AWS IoT, Azure IoT)
- Document network topologies and device inventories
Work Environment
Technology company, manufacturing facility, or smart infrastructure project. Mix of office configuration work and occasional field visits to IoT deployment sites.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Mostly structured hours. Field visits and incident response on connected systems can extend workdays occasionally.
