A Day in the Life
A GIS/Remote Sensing Specialist in the environmental sector spends their day analyzing spatial data to understand environmental patterns and changes. This involves using specialized software to map land use, track deforestation, assess disaster risks, and support conservation or urban planning projects, often working with satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets.
- Acquire, process, and analyze satellite imagery and aerial photographs for environmental monitoring.
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases for land use, biodiversity, and natural resources.
- Create maps, visualizations, and reports to communicate spatial analysis findings.
- Conduct spatial modeling to predict environmental changes or assess risks (e.g., flood mapping).
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, and policymakers on project requirements.
