A Day in the Life
Supervises a sewing production line of 30–60 machinists — assigning operations, maintaining output targets, managing quality standards, and ensuring daily production commitments are met.
- Start shift by checking operator attendance and assigning replacements for absentees
- Distribute daily target bundles and balance work across operators
- Monitor each operator's output and pace throughout the shift
- Identify bottleneck operations and rearrange workflow to balance the line
- Spot-check garment quality at key checkpoints, flag problems to QC
- Handle minor disciplinary issues and resolve interpersonal conflicts on the line
- Report daily output, efficiency percentage, and absenteeism to production manager
- Participate in morning meeting with IE and production management
Work Environment
Garment sewing floor managing a line of 30–60 industrial sewing machines. Loud, fast-paced, standing role in a large factory building. EPZ factories in Katunayake and Biyagama, and suburb factories in Horana, Wennappuwa, and Mirigama.
Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 4/10 · COMMON overtime
Physically and emotionally demanding. Six-day weeks during peak production. Managing 50+ workers creates constant interpersonal pressure. Early shift starts (6am in some EPZ factories). However, the sense of team leadership is rewarding for the right personality.
