A Day in the Life
Manage the front desk, reservations, concierge, and guest relations teams — the first and last impression of the hotel. Responsible for check-in/check-out operations, upselling, and ensuring smooth arrival and departure experiences.
- Brief front desk and concierge teams at shift handover
- Review arrivals for VIPs, groups, and special requests (honeymoon, accessibility)
- Monitor room assignment and upgrade opportunities for revenue management
- Handle complex guest situations (complaints, early check-ins, overbooking)
- Review PMS (OPERA) reports for accuracy (billing, no-shows, walk-ins)
- Conduct daily upsell performance tracking with front desk agents
- Coordinate with housekeeping on room readiness and priority cleans
- Review guest feedback scores and coach team on service recovery techniques
Work Environment
Front office is the most visible department in any hotel. In Sri Lanka, front office managers in 4/5-star hotels must handle both corporate travelers and leisure tourists including high-value international guests from Europe, China, and the Middle East.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 5/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Shift-based role but more predictable than F&B. Peak periods (New Year, Christmas, Easter in Colombo hotels) require extra commitment.
