A Day in the Life
Deliver food and beverage service to guests in a hotel restaurant, bar, or resort dining area — taking orders, serving dishes, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Set up dining tables, cutlery, and condiments before service
- Welcome guests, take orders, and enter into POS
- Serve food courses and beverages in correct sequence
- Monitor guest needs during dining and respond to requests
- Recommend dishes and daily specials
- Process payments via POS (cash, card)
- Clear tables efficiently and reset for next guests
- Maintain cleanliness of service area throughout shift
Work Environment
Hotel or resort restaurant — ranges from casual breakfast buffets to fine dining service in Colombo's 5-star properties. Service staff interact with diverse international guests daily. English proficiency and service standards are critical.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 5/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Shift-based role. Split shifts (breakfast and dinner) common in some properties. Weekends are busy.
