A Day in the Life

A Farm Operations Manager oversees the daily strategic and tactical operations of a large-scale commercial farm or plantation. This involves planning planting and harvesting schedules, managing labor, optimizing resource use, ensuring quality control, and maintaining equipment, all while striving for maximum yield and profitability.

  • Develop and implement annual crop plans, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control schedules
  • Manage and supervise a large team of farm workers, supervisors, and specialized staff
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of farm machinery and equipment
  • Monitor crop health, livestock welfare, and environmental conditions
  • Manage budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective resource utilization
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and quality control standards
  • Coordinate with suppliers for seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs, and with buyers for produce sales
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement and implement efficiency measures
