About This Role
Manages the energy, water, and waste utilities of large industrial complexes to minimize operational costs.
A Day in the Life
You oversee the management of building systems, utilities (power, water, HVAC, compressed air), and facility infrastructure to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operations. You balance cost management, regulatory compliance, and occupant comfort across large commercial or industrial facilities.
- Monitor utility consumption (electricity, water, fuel) and analyse efficiency metrics
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems
- Oversee utility contract management (generators, water treatment, renewable energy)
- Respond to facility breakdowns and manage emergency repair escalation
- Plan and manage capital improvement projects for facility upgrades
- Ensure compliance with utility regulations, environmental permits, and safety codes
- Manage relationships with utility providers (CEB, National Water Supply)
- Lead a team of facilities engineers, technicians, and contractors
- Develop and manage the facilities and utility operational budget
- Report on facility performance KPIs to senior management
Work Environment
A combination of office work (planning, reporting, vendor management) and facility floor inspections (plant rooms, rooftops, electrical substations, HVAC units). Occasional emergency response outside normal hours. Large organizations may have campuses with multiple buildings.
Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Generally structured working hours, but emergency facility failures (power outages, HVAC breakdowns) can require after-hours response. On-call responsibilities are common at senior levels. Overall balance is reasonable for a management role.
