A Day in the Life

An Export/Import Liaison Officer spends their day coordinating shipments, preparing and verifying trade documentation, communicating with suppliers (especially Chinese), customs brokers, and freight forwarders, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.

  • Prepare and process import/export documentation (e.g., invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, customs declarations).
  • Communicate regularly with Chinese suppliers to track orders, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders and shipping lines to arrange transportation.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers for customs clearance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Sri Lankan and international trade regulations, tariffs, and duties.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehousing for incoming/outgoing goods.
  • Resolve discrepancies or delays in shipments and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all import/export transactions.
