About This Role
Handling trade documentation and communication with Chinese suppliers.
A Day in the Life
An Export/Import Liaison Officer spends their day coordinating shipments, preparing and verifying trade documentation, communicating with suppliers (especially Chinese), customs brokers, and freight forwarders, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.
- Prepare and process import/export documentation (e.g., invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, customs declarations).
- Communicate regularly with Chinese suppliers to track orders, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery.
- Liaise with freight forwarders and shipping lines to arrange transportation.
- Coordinate with customs brokers for customs clearance procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Sri Lankan and international trade regulations, tariffs, and duties.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehousing for incoming/outgoing goods.
- Resolve discrepancies or delays in shipments and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of all import/export transactions.
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, often within a logistics, manufacturing, or trading company. Involves a fast-paced environment with constant communication, often across different time zones, and meticulous attention to detail for documentation.
