  • Clean, photograph, and make rubbings or estampages of inscriptions for detailed study.
  • Transcribe inscriptions from ancient scripts (e.g., Brahmi, Grantha, Sinhala script variations).
  • Translate inscriptions, often requiring knowledge of classical languages (e.g., Pali, Sanskrit, Old Sinhala, Tamil).
  • Analyze the linguistic, historical, and cultural context of inscriptions.
  • Conduct comparative research with other historical documents and archaeological evidence.
  • Prepare scholarly articles, books, and reports on epigraphic findings.
