Energy Services Engineering is for the engineer who wants to be commercially useful — your technical work directly saves clients money, reduces emissions, and produces measurable financial returns. In Sri Lanka, the combination of the SEA mandatory audit programme and high energy costs following recent crises creates a clear market. If you enjoy cross-sector client work, want strong freelance potential, and care about both commercial and environmental outcomes, energy management offers a career that pays well and does good simultaneously.

About This Role

Analyzes energy consumption in industrial systems and proposes solutions for renewable energy and efficiency.

A Day in the Life

Provide technical and commercial energy management services to industrial and commercial clients — conducting energy audits, identifying efficiency opportunities, designing improvements, and managing energy procurement and performance contracts.

  • Conduct energy audits for industrial, commercial, and institutional clients — data collection, analysis, recommendations
  • Analyse energy consumption data — electricity, fuel, steam — to identify waste and improvement opportunities
  • Design energy efficiency projects — lighting retrofits, motor efficiency upgrades, compressed air optimisation
  • Develop energy monitoring and targeting (M&T) systems and dashboards for client facilities
  • Prepare feasibility studies and financial models for energy efficiency investments (payback, NPV, IRR)
  • Monitor and verify energy savings against baseline using IPMVP methodology
  • Advise on energy procurement strategies — power purchase agreements, tariff optimisation
  • Prepare ISO 50001 Energy Management System documentation and audits
