About This Role
Airmen and Airwomen are enlisted members of the Sri Lanka Air Force serving in ground crew, aircraft maintenance, signals, logistics, and base security roles. O/L minimum qualification with physical selection. Training at SLAF Base Ekala before trade-stream assignment.
A Day in the Life
An Airman/Airwoman's day involves specialized tasks crucial for air force operations, ranging from aircraft maintenance and ground support to logistics, signals, or security. Daily routines are highly structured, demanding discipline and adherence to strict protocols.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on aircraft (for technical trades)
- Operate ground support equipment for aircraft movement and servicing
- Manage inventory and supply chain for air force assets (for logistics trades)
- Maintain and operate communication and radar systems (for signals trades)
- Perform base security duties, including patrols and access control
- Participate in physical training and drills
- Undergo continuous specialized training relevant to their trade
- Adhere to strict safety procedures and operational protocols
Work Environment
Works within a military base environment, which can include hangars, workshops, control rooms, or security posts. The environment is highly disciplined, structured, and can be physically demanding, with exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels depending on the trade.
Typical hours: 48h/week · WLB score 5/10 · REGULAR overtime
Work-life balance can be challenging due to shift duties, deployments, and the disciplined nature of military life. Personal time is often restricted.
